In Tokyo on April 22th 2019, Mr. Salah Ibrahim Osman signed the National road 1 improvement project contract. The signature event was attended by the Ambassador of Djibouti in Japan, S.E. Mr. Ahmed Araïta Ali, The General Director of the Djiboutian Road Agency (ADR), Mr. Soubaneh Said Ismael and his director of studies.

This three billion four hundred and fifty million yen project, equivalent to about five billion four hundred and seventy-eight million one hundred and sixty five thousand Djiboutian francs, has been taken in charge by the Japanese non-reimbursable Financial Cooperation in order to improve the efficiency and capacity of the transportation system, as well as to support the socio-economic development of the Republic of Djibouti.

The 20 km-long road’s construction work has been entrusted to two Japanese companies under one consortium acknowledged as Dai Nippon Construction and Toda Corporation. The construction work will start from May 2019.

The contract was signed by Mr. Toru Kubo, President of the Japan International Cooperation System (JICS) and Mr. Hidemi Hatano, General Director of Dai Nippon Construction under the name of that consortium.

On this occasion, Ambassador Ahmed Araïta Ali addressed his thanks in the name of the Government of Djibouti and all its people to the Japanese Government who, in accordance with the objectives of the TICAD, is carrying out a quality infrastructure.

This corridor connecting the Republic of Djibouti to Ethiopia will enhance and reinforce the role of regional gateway that our country stands for.
