A delegation from the municipality of Minamisōma, Fukushima in the northeast of Japan visited Djibouti from the 11-14th of February 2018.

The team was led by Mr. Yukio Sato, director general of the Department of Civic Life and Mr. Ryosuke Ando, Assistant Director of the Olympic and Paralympic Games secretariat.

They were welcomed by the State Secretary for Youth & Sports, H.E. Mr. Hassan Mohamed Kamil and the Secretary of State for Social Affairs, H.E. Mrs. Mouna Osman Aden as well as representatives of the Djiboutian Olympic committee presided by Mrs. Aicha Garrad.

During the meeting, the delegation from Japan expressed their gratitude for the warm welcome, the support and hospitality shown following the 3/11 disaster to Japan and in particular to Minamisōma.

The discussions then revolved around the participation in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the cultural exchange program with the town of Minamisōma in the prefecture of Fukushima as well as the holding of the 11th Games of the Commission of the Youth & Sports of the Indian Ocean (CJSOI) from the 20-28th April, 2018.
