The Republic of Djibouti yesterday celebrated 40 years of independence at the Hotel Okura Tokyo. H.E. Mr. Ahmed Araita Ali presented the opening speech talking about the country’s journey so far and how much Japan has grown to understand and work with Djibouti in furthering and bettering the existing bilateral ties. Several diplomats, ambassadors, and high-level guests were present including H.E. Mr. Itsunori Onodera, member of the House of Representatives and former Minister of Defense and President of Japan-Djibouti Friendship Parliamentary Association, H.E. Mr. Asahiko Mihara, also a member of the House of Representatives, Deputy President of Japan-African Union Parliamentary Friendship League, President of Business Friendship Association Djibouti-Japan Mr. Morikazu Ozawa, Vice President Mr. Kajigaya Masami and the director Mr. Nobukazu Komazawa, Japanese private sector as well as several Djiboutians and Japanese locals.
All guests were able to enjoy the fusion of both cultures with local music while savoring fresh tuna served by Mr. Kiyoshi Kimura, President of Kiyomura Corporation and his team. This merry celebration coincided with the end of the Ramadan and made for a pleasant and interactive atmosphere.
