From the 4-5th of May, the Parliamentary Vice Minister of Defense of Japan, Mr. Hiroyuki Miyazawa, paid a visit to Djibouti.
During his stay, Mr. Miyazawa met with the Minister of Defense of Djibouti, H.E MR. Ali Hasan Bahdon, to discuss the involvement of Japan on maintaining peace in the region. With close to 800 members, the Japanese self-defense forces are playing a key role in the fight against piracy, notably in the golf of Aden and off the coast of Somalia.
The vice minister also visited the self-defense force base, the only one outside Japan, established in 2011. During an interview with Japanese Media, JAPAN and the WORLD, Miyazawa reinforced the position of Japan to enhance know how exchange with Djibouti. Since March 2017 and until January 2018, Japan is giving technical assistance to Djibouti in the building of new roads and the maintenance of existing ones.
